How to grow your tree.
First, remove your tree from the outer packaging and add a small amount of water into the plastic bag around the root of the tree – it’s probably going to be a little thirsty after its long journey! Keep your tree root moist and out of direct sunlight until you plant it. Plant it as soon as you can into the ground or into a large, well drained pot. It will do best if kept outdoors at all times. Water the root area of your tree each day during dry weather.
Find the best spot to plant your tree in a place where you know it will grow happily for many years. If you are likely to move house in the next few years, plant your tree into a large pot (5lt or 10lt) where it can grow happily and move house with you. You can use topsoil from your garden mixed with a little peat free compost. Silver Birch trees are happy in cold climates and whilst they prefer light, dry and acid soils, they will tolerate most conditions.
If you do plant your tree out into the ground, make sure you consider the location carefully – because it can grow up to 30m and can live in excess of 80 years.
Go on! Plant it today and enjoy years of quiet satisfaction.
